Linking Soil Erosion Modeling to Landscape Patterns and Geomorphometry: An Application in Crete, Greece

چکیده
Soil erosion is a severe and continuous environmental problem caused mainly by natural factors, which can be enhanced anthropogenic activities. The morphological relief with relatively steep slopes, the dense drainage network, Mediterranean climate are some of factors that render Paleochora region (South Chania, Crete, Greece) particularly prone to soil in cases intense rainfall events. In this study, we aimed assess correlation between rates estimated from Revised Universal Loss Equation (RUSLE) landscape patterns detect most erosion-prone sub-basins based on an analysis morphometric parameters, using geographic information system (GIS) remote sensing technologies. assessment was conducted RUSLE model. metrics carried out correlate patterns. helped us prioritize areas at sub-basin level. were mapped, showing spatial distribution loss for study area 2020. For instance, seemed highly impact rates. parameter considered as useful tool delineating vulnerable erosion. integration three approaches showed there robust relationships modeling, patterns, morphometry.

Reviewing Soil Erosion in Greece
Mitigating soil erosion, especially in Mediterranean countries such as Greece, is essential in order to maintain environmental and agricultural sustainability. In this paper, scientific publications related to soil erosion studies in Greece were reviewed and categorized. To accomplish this, the online search engine of Scopus was used. The key words were “soil”, “erosion” and “Greece.” An analys...
متن کاملModeling Soil Erosion and Transport on Forest Landscape
Century-long studies on the impacts of forest management in North America suggest sediment can cause major reduction on stream water quality. Soil erosion patterns in forest watersheds are patchy and heterogeneous. Therefore, patterns of soil erosion are difficult to model and predict. The objective of this study is to develop a user-friendly management tool for land managers to design forest m...
متن کاملEcohydrological controls on soil erosion and landscape evolution
The ecohydrological controls on soil erosion and landscape evolution are difficult to quantify and poorly understood. In many parts of the world, cyclone-induced tree throw is a major source of disturbance. Tree throw may increase sediment transport by exposing a mound of fresh soil as well as providing a pit which may act as a knickpoint triggering gully erosion. Alternatively, while tree thro...

Results The mean age of disease onset was 30 years (range: 27 to 43). All patients presented with paresthesias, temperature loss and progressive weakness at the lower extremities, urinary difficulties, diarrhea, postural dizziness and weight loss. The upper extremities were involved later during the disease progression. Neurological examination revealed loss of pain and temperature sensation in...
